The TMJ & Sleep Therapy Service is led by Dr Karina Patel BDS (London)

Karina graduated from Kings College London and spent 4 years in private practice in Australia focusing her special interests in Neuromuscular and Advanced cosmetic dentistry. During this spell of advanced education Karina also completed two years of intensive study with international lecturer and orthodontist Dr Derek Mahony.

Dr Patel undertook further training in the USA with TMJ & Sleep Therapy Centre International Group founder Dr Steven Olmos, to provide the latest and most successful techniques for TMJ Disorders.

Karina is one of the only American Trained and Accredited Dental Sleep Medicine and Craniofacial Pain Dentists in the United Kingdom.


Dr Amelia Coulby BDS (UK)

Amelia graduated from The University of Sheffield with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery. Very early in her career as awareness grew in the UK about Sleep Breathing Disorders and Craniofacial Pain she founded a keen interest in this field. She undertook a two year mentorship programme with the London Sleep Centre under the tutorship of Dr Karina Patel.

Dr Coulby has attended numerous courses and conferences in the UK, Australia and America by world experts in this growing speciality, and  has developed her knowledge on the most up to date philosophies and treatment of Sleep Breathing Disorders and Craniofacial Pain. 

In 2019, she was the second UK dentist to obtain the specialist qualification of Diplomate in Dental Sleep Medicine from the American Board of Craniofacial Dental Sleep Medicine.

Amelia is now working towards her Diplomate in Craniofacial Pain.

Amelia also works in both NHS and Private general Dental Practice where she is dedicated to delivering a high standard of treatment and care to all of her patients.

Myofunctional Therapist/ Buteyko Breathing Practitioner/ TMJ Therapist

The London Sleep centre welcomes Yulli Tamayo-Myerson and Myofunctional Therapy UK to its wide range of growing services. This collaboration will mean that London based patients finally have Myofunctional Therapy on their doorstep.

Yulli is the founding President of The British Society of Myofunctional Therapy and the Founding Director of Myofunctional Therapy UK.The aim of the society is to raise public and professional awareness of Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (MOD’s), highlighting the early signs of Sleep Disorder Breathing (SDB) and its correlation with poor orofacial development and mouth breathing.

Yulli sits on the board member of the British Association of Sleep Surgeons as an allied specialist.

Yulli is member of the International Affiliation of Tongue-tie Professionals (IATTP), The British Sleep Society (BSS), The Academy of Applied Myofunctional Sciences (AAMS), The British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy (BSDHT), The Society for the Advancement of Anaesthesia in Dentistry (SAAD), The British Association of Sleep Surgeons (BASS), The British Dental Acupuncture Society and The British Society of Myofunctional Therapy (BSMFT).

Our Expertise

Our expertise is the evaluation and treatment of TMJ Disorders, Craniofacial Pain and Headaches as they interact with Sleep Disordered Breathing and Sleep Apnoea. Our approach involves a multi-disciplinary team evaluation for accurate diagnosis using state-of-art technologies and our treatments are grounded in scientific evidence-based knowledge.

We are the first TMJ Sleep Therapy Centre in the EU and the first in the world to be based within a multi-disciplinary Sleep Centre – The London Sleep Centre – www.londonsleepcentre.com – a world renowned centre for the diagnosis and treatment of the full range of sleep disorders where our integrated approach to the diagnosis and treatment of patients is well established.

There is substantial scientific literature documenting the co-existence of TMJ disorders, craniofacial pain and headaches with Sleep Disordered Breathing and Sleep Apnoea. The overlap and the interface between sleep disorders, TMJ disorders and Craniofacial Pain is now well established. This is why The TMJ & Sleep Therapy Centre of London has now been integrated into The London Sleep Centre. We are now able to provide a comprehensive evaluation and treatment programme for patients with TMJ Disorders and Craniofacial Pain and provide these patients effective, non-invasive therapies.
